The idea

colr.org has been around since March 2005. It has two purposes:
1) It's a tool to let people fiddle around with colors.
2) It's a jungle gym for software ideas.

References

The overall look was inspired by del.icio.us. The name was ripped off inspired by flickr. The color picker came from here.

Some of nature photos come from freefoto.com.
Some come from the US Forest Service.
Some come from (wow) 2realeyes.com.

The project itself was inspired by several things:

• The tag history is semi-inspired by how wikis do it (anyone can add, anyone can remove). We'll see how that goes.

Discovery

This is not an original idea. I was about half done with the code when I came across this. And hey, look here!
In 2006, Adobe joined the fun (it's about time!)

Code

The backend is python, with a tiny bit of php for generating color schemes from images. The interface is mostly javascript. MySQL stores the data.
